Benue N/East 2023: Ex-BIRS Chair, Ayabam Picks APC Forms

By Denen Achussah

Former Executive Chairman, Benue Internal Revenue Service (BIRS) and Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) Director, Dr. Andrew Terhemba Ayabam (DATA), has obtained Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms to run for the Benue North East Senatorial District election.

Ayabam first contested for the seat in 2015. Briefing his kinsmen before the purchase of the forms, Ayabam said his major legislative focus would be to check the issue of the porous Kwande- Cameroon international border.

He is running on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC), the platform upon which he earlier contested.

The erstwhile BIRS boss is the third aspirant to pick the forms after Lady Helen Atom and Barr. Benjamin Udende. Whereas Ayam and Lady Helen are from Kwande, the block favoured to produce the 2023 Benue North East (Zone A) Senator, Barr. Udende is from Sankera where the incumbent and People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Gabriel Suswam comes from.

Dr. Ayabam is of the view that until Kwande sits at the sharing table, the required dividends of democracy will continue to elude them.

He is calling on stakeholders to consider his antecedents as employer of labour and one desirous to bring development to his people and trust him to represent them at the senate from 2023.

According to Ayabam, since the return to democracy in 1999, the sit has been oscillating from Sankera and Jechira without regard to Kwande and it is only appropriate that Kwande is also allowed to take the lead.

“My desire is not to be greater than all; it is for me to be sent and bring development to the people. I am young and has shown through my previous assignments that I can do more if given a higher opportunity. I’ve made friendship with peoples of various cultures, background and so it is now my desire to help my people grow much more than I have done in the past.

“We have to rise up because power belongs to the people. If we are united, there is nothing that we cannot do,” the former BIRS chair counseled.
