The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Gubernatorial Screening Committee has cleared 14 aspirants to participate in the party’s gubernatorial primary election due to hold in May this year, ThisWeek can report.

They have been cleared by a seven-member North Central PDP Gubernatorial Screening Committee led by Tim Eneji as Chairman and Maurice Tsav, Secretary.

Those successfully screened and given a clean bill of health to participate in the primary election include Benson Abounu; Dennis Ityavyar; Terkaa Ucha; Paul Angya; Susan Waya; Ben Akaakar and Boniface Jirbo. Others are Dominic Akahan; Joe Ikyagba; Titus Uba; Paul Orhii; Chile Igbawua; Paul Ubwa and Donatus Dooter.

The screening of the 14, according to one observer has put to rest “any talk about consensus candidate” in Benue State.

Speaking to ThisWeek vide voice call, Prof Ityavyar, who came top among PDP aspirants from Vandeikya Local Government Area says “the effort that was made is a preliminary effort. If the people of Benue generally responds to that effort rather negatively, then some other persons will try to go on.”

While acknowledging that “in the final analysis, God will bring in any person that He wants,” Prof Ityavyar is optimistic that he will be that one person that will be ultimately picked at his party’s primary election.
