Police Bans Use of Fireworks In Benue

By Denen AchussahAhead of the 2021 yuletide, the Nigeria Police, Benue State Command has announced ban on use of fireworks, while announcing reinforcement of restriction on movement of motorcycles.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Makurdi Command, DSP Sewuese Anene, in a press statement issued in Makurdi said the use of fireworks “can ignite fire that can spread, cause panic and disturb public peace. Criminals can also hide under the guise of fireworks to perpetuate crime.”
The statement further warned “motorcyclists to operate within 6am and 8pm as specified by the order,” restricting movement of motorcycle.
DSP Anene, in the statement reiterated the commitment of the Commissioner of Police (CP), Benue State, Tunji Akingbola, to fight crime and ensure a peaceful yuletide and beyond.
Fireworks have resumed in Makurdi and other parts of the state ahead of the yuletide.
