Development organisations gets BENGONET’s training on project, programme management

By Denen AchussahNon-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Benue State otherwise known as development organisations are rising from a training programme on project and programme management today, Tuesday, 23 rs November, 2021, in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
The training, organised by Benue NGOs Network (BENGONET), in collaboration with WOHEPI, CHESIDS and HODSI, according to the Coordinator, Mrs. Shimenenge Kyaagba, is a step in helping participants to develop a deeper understanding of project and programmes for development.
Mrs. Kyaagba observed that development organisations “are facing increasing demands to do more with less, from becoming catalysts of change in communities they serve to deliver projects on time, under budget and in the quality of not only expected but demanded by donors and beneficiaries.”
She explained that to overcome the challenges, development and humanitarian assistance organisations must equip themselves with tools, practices and methodologies that a well established project management can provide, particularly those that have been quite successful in other industries and organisations.
“It is BENGONET’s desire to provide its Executive Directors, Programme Managers and staff with a guide to help them plan, implement, and monitor projects in a more consistent, reliable and predictable manner,” Mrs. Kyaagba said.
Project Manager of Ramberg Child Survival Initiative, Joshua Ashaver, said he is looking forward to better skills to managing his projects and programmes more effectively.
Effective management of resources, improvement in timely reporting and financial management are some of his other expectations.
The two-day workshop, which has drawn 62 participants together is aimed at building capacities of NGOs and CSOs on project and programme management skills to enable them successfully manage projects in complex and competitive environment; to give participants an overview of the entire project management processes, as well as key project management tools that can be used every day and to increase the knowledge and skills if participants in management of development projects.
Furthermore, the training seeks to improve participants understanding of Monitoring and Evaluation as a tool for programme management; and to enhance participants skills in report writing, proposal writing and development of concepts notes.
